Serenade

Spring blows in on a warm zephyr
   In showers of sweet nectar, easing
      Bulbs and seeds from winter berths.
Daffodils, with golden ruffled heads,
     Sweep upward into the light
        Like restless, proud children.
Crocuses, white and purple,
     Plume beneath the sun where
        Aged eaves cast shadows.
Tulips stem inside gnawed blades  
     In grand regalia, daring to
         Dance for fear of deer.
Buds on the trees blossom
    In arrays of pink and white,
         A scent of sweet bouquet.
Robins scavenge the green for worms…
      Ducks in “V” formation voice salutations…
          Pigeons coo… Meadowlarks warble…
The aria of Spring sings
        Of new beginnings and encores
            Of wild roses and lilacs on the bush.
