How to Use the Fan Brush

In my last video How to Blend with Acrylics I introduced the fan brush. While every tool has multiple ways you can use it, like when I decide to use my can opener as a hammer, tools were made for specific purposes. The fan brushes specific purpose is blending. I would like you, (if your here to learn to paint)  to take some time this week practicing the blending technique I shared with your fan brush.

Here is what to do.
1. Add two or more colors to a small canvas. Use just enough water that the paint is not translucent but spreads easily.
2. Before the paint starts to dry, use your fan brush to blend the colors together.  Blend in between each color.
3. Watch what happens and then play around using your fan brush differently.

Are there brush marks?  Can you get rid of them?
What happens if you add more pressure with your fan brush?

Based on what you learned, what else could you use a fan brush for?

If you don't have a fan brush, go get one and play with it.  Have fun creating!

Take Care,
Ashley Krieger
