I absolutely love birch trees. You may have noticed this if you have seen some of the artwork I sell. The way I show you how to paint these birch trees is super easy, we use a credit card! It is fun and we learn painting skills as we create. This is a gorgeous DIY painting on canvas and you can enjoy a video art tutorial. It also does not require a bunch of supplies.

adding texture with card
STEP 1: PAINT BACKGROUND Start by painting your background with your wide brush. Paint whatever colors you wish. Make the texture smooth by moving your brush from left-to-right, side to-side until the colors are well blended.

STEP 2: PAINT TREES Wash your wide brush. Use white paint to paint wide vertical lines for the trees. The trees do not have to be going all the same direction. Make sure your trees are smooth by adding more paint and using the sides of your brush.

STEP 3: ADD TEXTURE Grab an old card and dip it into your black paint. Practice on your pallet first holding your card to the side and wiping it across. The black paint should have a line on the side and move unevenly across. Practice until you are comfortable with how it works.  Then once you have the hang of it hold your card at the side of your tree and wipe it across your tree. The texture should be uneven and random. Keep adding black to both sides of your trees. All areas on the sides of the trees do not have to have black paint. Once your trees are done, look at how adding texture makes them appear like real trees. Sign your work!

I hope you enjoyed this free art project and subscribe for more of them.
