Story: This is the 20th state on my traveling and painting journey around the U.S. While we were in Virginia we took a drive along Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. It was a gorgeous drive and we hit it at just the right time, sunset. There are several pullouts along the drive and we enjoyed one, cuddled up watching the sun go down. I brought all my painting things to paint plein air but that evening it was very cold. This is good news, so the leaves can turn colors, but painting outside is very difficult in cold weather. We missed the bright fall trees by just a week we think, so I decided to capture the amazing colors in the sunset over the Blue Ridge Mountains. I painted the scene later at another beautiful location, Hungry Mother Lake. This is a very beautiful state, we loved our time here.
